රනිල් වික්රමසිංහ වුකලී ලේඛකයා දැඩි ලෙස පිළිකුල් කරන පොලිතීසියන් ලැයිස්තුවේ මුදුනින්ම සිටින්නෙකි. ඒ එක්සත් ජාතික පක්ෂය සමඟ චිරාත් කාලයක් තිස්සේ වූ ඝට්ඨනය නිසා නොවේ. එසේම රටේ බහුතරයක් ඔහු පිළිකුල් කරන හේතූන්ට ඉඳුරා වෙනස් හේතු ඇතිවය.
ධන ලක්ෂණ වලින් පටන් ගත්තොත්, කෘෂිකර්මාන්තය පදනම් කොට ගත් ඩී. එස්. සේනානායකගේ පසුගාමී, යල් පැණ ගිය පැරැණි යූ ඇන් පීයට සාපේක්ෂව වික්රමසිංහගේ නූතනත්වය ලේඛකයා අගයයි. අඩු තරමින් බස්නාහිර පළාතේ ඉඩම් කුඹුරු ගොවිතැනට වඩා වෙනත් කටයුත්තක් සඳහා යොදා ගැනීම වඩා ඵලදායී බැව් අවබෝධ කරගන්නට තරම් මොළයක් වික්රමසිංහට තිබුණේය. එසේම අන් සියළු විකල්පයන් අහෝසි කොට දෙමළුන් ත්රස්තවාදයට තල්ලුකොට දැමූ ජාතික ගැටළුව පිළිබඳ ජේ. ආර් ජයවර්ධනගේ බමුණු මතයට වඩා වික්රමසිංහ ඒ ගැන දැක්වූ නම්යශීලීත්වයටද ලේඛකයා ප්රිය කරන්නේය. දෙමළුන් වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී නොසිටියද, වික්රමසිංහ අනෙකුත් ජාතික මට්ටමේ සිංහල නායකයින් මෙන් අන්ත සිංහල ගෝත්රවාදයක් කරා තල්ලු වී නැත. සුළුතරයන්ගේ අයිතිවාසිකම්, මානව අයිතීන් හා මානව හිමිකම් සම්බන්ධව (තරමක අපුලකින් යුතුව වුවද) ඔහු සමඟ එකම වේදිකාවට ගොඩ වන්නට අපට බැරිකමක් නැත්තේම නොවේ. අන්තර් ජාතික වශයෙන් ‘මහ ජරා’ මහ රජාසේ වික්රමසිංහ කාඩ් කුඩු කරගෙනද නැත. (තමන්ට තවමත් පෙරසේ වෙණ ගායනා බැරි බැව් ඔහු අවබෝධ නොකැරගැන්මට එක් හේතුවක් මේය.)
ඔළුව අත ගා ඉවරය. දැන් ටොකු ඇනීම පටන් ගනිමු.
ලේඛකයාට වික්රමසිංහ ගැන ඇති තදබල විවේචනය ඔහුගේ ‘ලිබරල්’ යැයි වැරදි ලෙස හඳුන්වනු ලබන මතවාදය සම්බන්ධව නොව ලිබරල්වාදියකු සේ පෙනී සිටිමින් සාම්ප්රදායික නිලමේවරයකුගේ භූමිකාව රඟපෑම, තමා ඊට නුසුදුසු බව දැන දැනම, මේ රටේ ජනතාව වෙනුවෙන් මහඟු සේවයක් ඉටුකළැකි තනතුරක් (වෙන සුදුස්සකුට ඉඩ ලබාදීම සඳහා) අත් නොහැරීම හා ගොඩ නැඟෙමින් තිබෙන වැඩවසම් රාජ්යයට එරෙහිව ජනතාව පෙළ ගස්සනවා වෙනුවට තම නොහැකියාව නිසා වක්රව ඒ දුර්දාන්ත රාජ්යතන්ත්රයේ පැවැත්මට රුකුල් දීම ගැනය.
රටක් ආර්ථික වශයෙන් දියුණු වීම සඳහා පමණක් සවිමත් විපක්ෂයක් තිබිය යුතුය යන කාරණය ලේඛකයා තරයේ ප්රතික්ෂේප කරයි. සිංගප්පූරුව හා මාල දිවයින හොඳ නිදසුන් දෙකකි. නොබෝදා ජපාන ප්රජාතන්ත්රවාදී පක්ෂය (DPJ) විසින් පරදවන ලද තුරුම, මාස එකොළහක කෙටි කාලයකට හැර, ජපානය වසර 54ක් තිස්සේ ආණ්ඩු කරන ලද්දේද එක පක්ෂයක් – ලිබරල් ප්රජාතන්ත්රවාදී පක්ෂය (LDP) විසිනි. කොමියුනිස්ට් චීනයේ විපක්ෂයක් කියා මඟුලක් ඇත්තේම නැත. දීර්ඝ කාලයක් තිස්සේ සවිමත් විපක්ෂයක් නැතිවීම මේ කිසිම රාජ්යයකට දියුණු වීම සඳහා බාධාවක් වූයේ නොවේ. සමහර අවස්ථාවන්හීදී සවිමත් විපක්ෂයක් නැතිවීම ඒවායේ සංවර්ධනයට හේතුවී ඇත. වරෙක ඉන්දීය අගමැති මන්මෝහන් සිං ප්රකාශ කළේ ඉන්දියාවේ කම්හලක් ගොඩනඟන්නට, පාරක් හදන්නට යන කාලයෙන් දහයෙන් එකකදී චීනයට එය කළ හැක්කේ රජයේ තීරණ ප්රශ්න කරන්නට කිසිවකු නැති නිසා බවය.
සවිමත් විපක්ෂයක් නැතිවීම කෙටිකාලීනව රටක දේශපාලන ස්ථාවරභාවයට (Political Stability) හානියක්ද නොවේ. විපක්ෂය දුර්වල වීම බොහෝවිට රටක දේශපාලන ස්ථාවරභාවයට යහපත්ය.
එසේනම් අප මෙතරම් දතකා විපක්ෂයක් පවත්වාගෙන යන්නේ ඇයි? රනිල් වික්රමසිංහට, සෝමවංශ අමරසිංහට හා ඔවුන්ගේ ගෝලයින්ට මහජන මුදලින් වැටුප් ගෙවමින් නඩත්තු කරන්නේ ඇයි?
ප්රජාතන්ත්රවාදී සමාජයක විපක්ෂයක් අවශ්ය වන්නේ ඉඳුරාම වෙනස් කාරණාවක් සඳහාය. ඕනෑම රටක පාලකයකු (හැන්ද තමන්ගේ අතේ නිසා) තමන්ගේ ජාතියට, කුලයට, ප්රදේශයට පමණක් නොව පවුලට පවා අසාධාරණ ලෙස සම්පත් බෙදා ගැනීමේ අවදානමක් පවතී. මෙය ලංකාව වැනි නොදියුණු රටවල පමණක් නොව සිංගප්පූරුව වැනි දියුණු රටවල පවා සිදු වන බැව් ලී ක්වාන් යූගේ පවුලට හිමි ව්යාපාරික වස්තූන් දෙස බැලීමේදී පෙනී යයි. (සිංගප්පූරුවේ අද අගමැති ලී ක්වාන් යූගේ පුත්රයාය. දේශපාලනය තුළ වංශය පවත්වා ගැනීමේ පවිටු සිරිත දකුණු ආසියාවට සීමාවී නැති බවයි මෙයින් පෙනෙන්නේ.) රටකට විපක්ෂයක් අවශ්ය වන්නේ මේ ධ්රැවීකරණය වළක්වා ගැන්ම සඳහාය. විපක්ෂයක් නොමැතිනම් පාලකයන් අයත්වන කුලකයන්ට අයත්නොවන ජනතාවගේ අයිතීන් ගැන හඬක් නැඟීමට කවරකු හෝ ඉතිරි වන්නේ නොවේ. මේ නිසා විපක්ෂයේ ප්රමුඛ කාර්යභාරය විය යුත්තේ හඬක් නැති ජනතාවගේ හඬ වීමය. යම් මොහොතක පාලකයන්ගේ අනුග්රහය නොලබන මේ හඬක් නැති ජනතාව බහුතරය වන කල්හි ඔවුහු පවත්නා ආණ්ඩුව පෙරළා දමා නව ආණ්ඩුවක් පිහිටුවා ගනිති. මෙහිදී පක්ෂ දෙකක භූමිකාවන් වෙනස් වුවද ආණ්ඩුවේ හා විපක්ෂයේ භූමිකාවන් වෙනස් නොවේ. තට්ටු මාරුවකදී එතෙක් බලයේ සිටි පක්ෂය විපක්ෂයට ගොස් විපක්ෂයේ භූමිකාව රඟපෑම ආරම්භ කරයි.
අද අපේ රටේ විපක්ෂයට අයත් වන දේශපාලන පක්ෂ දෙස බැළුවොත් ඉතාම ප්රතිගාමී ස්ථාවරයක සිටිමින් හෝ තමන් නියෝජනය කරන ජන කොටස් ගැන ප්රබල හඬක් නඟන එකම පක්ෂය ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණය. ඒ හඬ වැරදිද නිවැරදිද යන්න වෙනම කතාවක් වුවත් අඩු තරමින් මේ රටේ විශ්ව විද්යාල ශිෂ්යයින්, රජයේ සේවකයින් වැනි තෝරාගත් ජන කොටස් වල අවශ්යතා ජවිපෙ විසින් හඳුනාගෙන ඇති බව මේ කොටස් ඒ වටා එක් රැස් වීමෙන් පෙනෙයි. පළාත් සභා මැතිවරණ එක පිට එකින් අන්ත පරාජයන්ට ලක් වෙද්දීත් කඳුළු ගෑස් කන්නට සූදානමින්, කොටුවේ මහාමාර්ග වසන්නට තරම් ජනකායක් පාරට බස්සන්නට ජවිපෙට ශක්තිය ලැබී ඇත්තේ එනිසාය. එසේම බිම් මට්ටමේ ජවිපෙ ක්රියාකාරීන් තුළ තවමත් නායකයින් කෙරෙහි යම් හෝ ගෞරවයක් ඇත්තේය. මේ වෙන කිසිම හේතුවක් නිසා නොව තමන් නියෝජනය කරන ඉතාම කුඩා ජනතීරුවේ වුව ප්රශ්න ජවිපෙ න්යායපත්රයේ අඩංගුව ඇති නිසාය. (උදා: හරි වැරැද්ද පසෙක තියා, පුද්ගලික වෛද්යවිද්යාලයට එරෙහි වීම තමන්ගේ අවිනිශ්චිත අනාගතය ගැටළුවක් කොට ගෙන ඇති දුප්පත් විශ්වවිද්යාල සිසුන්ට ඉතාම ආකර්ෂණීය ඇමකි.)
ජවිපෙට සේම යූ ඇන් පියටද තමන්ට සම්ප්රදායික ලෙස ආමන්ත්රණය කළ හැකි ජනකොටස් ඇත්තේය. බොහෝ මෝඩ ඊනියා සමාජවාදීන් සිතා සිටින හැටියට යූ ඇන් පියට මෙතෙක් කල් ඡන්දය දුන්නේද සහයෝගය දැක්වූයේද ධනපති පංතිය හා ඔවුන්ගේ අන්තේවාසිකයෝම නොවෙති. (එක් මෝඩ ‘මාක්ස්වාදී’ නායකයකු කීවේ පොල් අත්තක් යට තරාදියක් එලා ගන්නා සුළු වෙළෙන්දාද ධනපතියකු සේ සැලකිය යුතු බවය. මේ මුන් මාක්ස්වාදය තේරුම්ගත් තරමය.) මැද පෙරදිග රටවල් ඇතුළු විදේශයන්හි සේවය කරන පිරිස්, සුළු වෙළෙන්දන්, තෙසක් සැරි රියැදුරන්, විවිධාකාරයේ ස්වයං රැකියාවන්හි නිරත වූවන් පමණක් නොව ගොවීන් හා ධීවරයෝද ඔවුන්ගේ පවුල් වල ඇත්තන් සමඟ යූ ඇන් පියට සහයෝගය දක්වති. මෙතෙක් තම කටයුතුවලට රුකුලක්ව ඇත්තේ යූ ඇන් පී ප්රතිපත්තීන් බව සුළු බුද්ධියකින් පවා වටහා ගැන්මට ඔවුන්ට හැකිවී තිබේ. අනෙක් අතට මහරජාණන්ගේ සිංහල බෞද්ධ අන්තවාදය පිළිකුල් කරන අති විශාල සංඛ්යාවක් සුළුජාතිකයෝ වෙති. වික්රමසිංහගේ වර්තමාන යූ ඇන් පිය කරන ලොකුම වරද මේ කිසිම ජන කොටසකගේ අයිතීන් වෙනුවෙන් හඬක් නොනැගීමය.
අද යූ ඇන් පිය කතා කරන ප්රශ්න ඔවුන්ගේ ප්රශ්න මිස පොදු ජනතාවගේ ප්රශ්න නොවේ. 17 වැනි සංශෝධනය, මැතිවරණ කොමිසම්ද, සාධාරණ මැතිවරණද අවශ්යවන්නේ යූ ඇන් පියටය; ජනතාවට නොවේ. රාජ්ය මාධ්යාධිපත්යය භයානක ලෙස හිසරදයක්ව ඇත්තේ ද යූ ඇන් පියටය. ජනතාවගේ ප්රශ්න මේවායින් වෙනස්ය. අඩු තරමින් ජවිපෙ සේ ප්රශ්න පත්තරයක වැරද්දක් අල්ලාගෙන කෑගැසීමටවත් යූ ඇන් පියට නොහැකිව තිබේ. අවතැන්වූවන් ගැන කියනුම කවරේද?
එසේම වික්රමසිංහගේ යූ ඇන්පිය ඉතාම වැරදි හා මෝඩ ලෙස ජනතාවගේ සංකීර්ණ ප්රශ්න තම වාසියට හරවා ගන්නට උත්සාහ දරයි. මෙය ඕනෑම රටක විපක්ෂයක් කරන දෙයක් මුත් එය කළ යුත්තේ පරිස්සමිනි. ජනතාවගේ අපේක්ෂාවන්ට පටහැනි නොවන අයුරිනි. GSP+ ප්රශ්නය ගනිමු. ඇඟලුම් කර්මාන්තයෙන් දිවි රැක ගන්නා ගම්බද ජනතාව අති විශාල පිරිසක් GSP+ සහනය ලැබේද නොලැබේද දෙගිඩියාවකින් පසුවන මොහොතකි මේ. ඔවුන්ට මේ සහනය අත්යාවශ්යය. අනික් අතට ඊට ප්රතිවිරුද්ධ ස්ථාවරයක ඉන්නා යූ ඇන් පිය GSP+ සහනය නොලැබීම ගැන යටි සිතින් සතුටු වේ. ඔවුන්ගේ අභිලාෂය GSP+ සහනය ලැබී මෙරට ගම්බද ජනතාවට යහපතක් වනු දැකීම නොව එය නොලැබී රාජපක්ෂ රෙජීමය කුජීත වනු දැකීමය. මොවුන් දිගින් දිගටම මැතිවරණ වලින් පැරැදීම පුදුමයක්ද? හුදෙක් පක්ෂ දේශපාලනයේ වාසි සඳහා පොදු ජනතාවගේ එදාවේල උකස් කිරීමට පසුබට නොවන පක්ෂයකට ඔවුන් තව දුරටත් ඡන්දය භාවිතා කළ යුත්තේද?
එතැනින් එපිටට යන වික්රමසිංහ තමන්ගේ ලිංගික නම්ණීකරණයද ගැටළුවක් කොට ගනී. මෙය කතා කිරීම අසාධරණය කියන්නෝ පිරිසක්ද වෙති. ඒ එසේ නම් විෂම ලිංගික රාජපක්ෂගේ පවුල ගැනද ඔහුගේ නැඟණියගේ දෙනියායේ බංගලාව ගැනද කතා කිරීමද අසාධාරණ විය යුතුය. පවුලේ සාමාජිකයන් කරන කියන දේ දේශපාලනයට අදාළ නොවන හෙයිනි. රනිල් වික්රමසිංහගේ සමරිසි සම්බන්ධතා (gay affairs) අපේ මාතෘකාවට අතිශයින් අදාළ ඔහු තම ලිංගික ජීවිතය (මංගල සමරවීර සේ) පුද්ගලික මට්ටමින් තබා නොගෙන දේශපාලනයට මුසු කරන හෙයිනි. වික්රමසිංහගේ ඡායා කැබිනෙට්ටුවේ (shadow cabinet) අධ්යාපනය භාරදී ඇත්තේ අකිල විරාජ් කාරියවසම්ටය. ආරක්ෂක කටයුතු තවත් සුකුමාල තරුණයකු වූ සාගල රත්නායකටය. වික්රමසිංහගේ පුරිස් කයට මෝක්ෂ සුව ලබා දීම සඳහා ඕනෑම වෙලාවක ‘එව-රෙඩි’ තබා ඇති රෙක්තමයන් හැරුණුවිට මේ භාරදූර පදවි දරන්නට මොවුන්ට ඇති සුදුසුකම් කවරේද? රටේ ප්රධාන විරුද්ධ පක්ෂයේ නායකයා ලෙස තමන් වෙත පැවරුණු වගකීම් මෙලෙස පුද්ගලික වින්දනයට යට කරන මේ පුද්ගලයාට රාජපක්ෂගේ ඥාති සංග්රහ ගැනත්, අනර්කලිය දේශපාලනයට සම්ප්රාප්ත වීම ගැනත් කතා කරන්නට ඇති අයිතිය කුමක්ද?
වික්රමසිංහ අද ඉටුකරමින් සිටින යම් ක්රියාවක් වේද එය ආච්චිට හාල් ගැරීමක් ලෙස හඳුන්වා දීමට ලේඛකයා පසුබට නොවන්නේ එහෙයිනි. ජීවිතයේ කිසිම දිනයක යූ ඇන් පිය වෙනුවෙන් ඡන්දය පාවිච්චිකර නැතද, අට වතාවක් මේ රට පාලනය කිරීම සඳහා මෙරට පොදු ජනතාව විසින් තෝරා පත්කර ගන්නා යූ ඇන් පිය මෝඩ ‘සමාජවාදීන්’ සේ ධනපති පක්ෂයක් සේ හංවඩු ගසා කොන් කර දමනවා වෙනුවට මැටි බළලකුගෙන් ගන්නා වැඩපළවත් කර ගැනීමට ඊට මීට වඩා සුදුසු, රට ගැන ආදරයක් ඇති, නායකත්වයක් අවශ්ය බව ලේඛකයාගේ කල්පනාවය.
අනෙක් අතට යූ ඇන් පිය යකාට ගියේවා, මෙරට විපක්ෂයට හිසක් තිබිය යුතුය. එය කවන්ධයක් විය යුතු නැත, විශේෂයෙන්ම රට වැඩවසම් යුගයකට තල්ලු කරන්නට පාලකයින් අර අඳින මේ අබුද්දස්ස යුගයේ. සිරිමා බණ්ඩාරනායක නම් අකර්මන්ය චරිතය විපක්ෂයේ මුල් පුටුව බදාගෙන රටට කළ මහා වින්නැහිය කරන්නට වික්රමසිංහට ඉඩ නොතැබිය යුතුය.

ප්රේමදාස සමයේ තිබූ මර්ධනකාරී, ප්රචණ්ඩ යූඇන්පියට වඩා හාත්පසින්ම වෙනස් යූඇන්පියක නායකත්වය දැරීම පිළිබඳව යම් ප්රමාණයක් සතුටු විය යුත්තෙමු. එහෙත් මොහු මෙතරම් දේශපාලනමය මෝඩයකු වීම අප සැමගේ අවාසනාවකි. සෑහීමකට පත්වියහැකි අනාගත නායකත්වයක්ද මෙපක්ෂය තුල නොපෙනේ.

Dear Taboo Subjects,
I have been reading your blog for some time with interest. Think this is the first time that I make a comment.
I find this post not only unkind to Mr. Ranil Wickremasinghe, as someone who had made immense contribution to the country as a former Minister and Prime Minister but also irrational. Sad that you have fallen into this low level. A criticism should always be fair and constructive.
I agree UNP is not 100% perfect and it undergoes a difficult period, but tell me which party hasn’t? UNP has not been doing too good in Provincial Council elections, but how could we when the government shamelessly uses public property in massive scale in their election campaign?
UNP does not have any public money and even we have no intention of spending like this unethical manner.
The difference between opposition leader and the President is only the former has a vision for the country. It is sad still many could not understand that but we are optimistic. Wait few months and see how UNP will perform in the next few months. There may be a day you may want to take back your words.
Having said that, I agree with most of your opinions. I appreciate your bravery in this society where media is seriously suppressed.

im not saying that Ranil is a weak person. he had done lot as a minister and PM but my logic is he cannot act as a party leader to successfully tackle weak points f a government and topple a government.
coz Ranil became PM twice by luck not by his talents.
first time he came to it to fill the vacancy of former PM D.B wijethunga in 1993.
second time he won in 5th Dec 2001. But i think at that moment any fool can won that election. coz at that time SL was in worst state after getting independence. economy was in (-) values, massive army defeats in E’pass and Mulativu, katunayaka air pot attack, number of MP cross overs in parliament due to personnel prob with chandrika.(any MP had no valid reason for cross over) so in such situation any one can win an election.
that is why he could not win after 2 years time
or in 2000 general election.
and he could not win 1999 presidential elections even with such a foolish woman and 2005 with just PM Mahinda. so what will be the result in next presidential election with victorious MAHA RAJA…………?????????????

I think Ranil never understood the value of his PM post under Chandrika. He kept his all new UNP ( “ henchiya )“ young boys around him cutting away the people who did the real work to bring him to power. These “ BOYS” gave him such an assurance ( Like they now do to Maha Raja). So he never understood if he was on foot or horse back at that time.
But lets thank Ranil for opening the frontiers , and the A9 road for civilians to travel, ( during his PM ship) this was done after so many Army Generals failed to gain control of it, even with the massive fire power at their disposal.
What went wrong was that , even Ranil’s petty Chairman of ( Lottery Board ) and other Ministers insulted the first lady President Chandrika at each an every turn. They never followed the protocol and failed to recognize the power of our “Lady Political Animal. ( Who was our first Lady President and elder daughter of two good Priministers – (as the good book says ) “
It was in the air that Chandrika wanted to dissolve the UNP Parliament at the first instant.( this talk was over 2 weeks) . UNP guys never even suspected it. Ranil was in America at that time and did not even bother to talk about what Chandrka did to his government. If he just asked the UNPers to take charge ( or at least demonstrate against) of the Government it would have ended Chandrika rightly at that time. At the air port, “He said I will talk about this to Bill Clinton. “ and even uneducated common masses of Sri Lanka laughed at this reply.
I think he is a too good gentleman knowing very well not to ride the Tiger or the wave of common masses, but to obey the constitution developed by his good uncle his Excellency JR.

Everybody knows that what Taboo said is fair and rational with respect to Ranil’s gay life. We don’t see the logic in him as to why he should so passionately keep Sagala and Akila and promote them to be projected as the party stalwards. At least he should make use of people like you who can do it better than these two jokers! (may be you too aspire to have that!)
so by and large, we-the majority will agree with Taboo’s comments on this topic as the case is already proven without doubt!(now don’t try to argue as to the presumptions of doubt as I too represnt the fraternity that you are in!)

I do not think Ranil Wickramasinghe is a bad leader. He has no craze for power. This clear fact, saved him many times from political suicide. We must also not forget like Al Gore he ,merely lost by 125,000 votes. Many UNPers did not vote because they thought this will be a cake walk for Ranil.
I see Dr Jayalath Jayawardana in the picture. And let me tell you a story how he shot in to lime light after the death of Premadasa. ( I like this good educated man , and this is just for fun only).
When Premadasa died Rupawahini was showing the casket of Late president Pramadasa and they always wanted to show a full house of people coming and visiting Premadasa’s body. Around 11 in the night they ran in to a problem. People could not come as curfew was declared and the “ Jana Ganga” was running dry and became empty. So they cut the tape of 45 minute interval ( from an earlier time) and ran it over and over until morning.
At that time Dr Jayalath was just a obscure consultant to the President and they had cut the tape starting from the time Jayalath was showing his respects, clad in white with flowers worshipping the president.
The out come was some what hilarious, this showed Jayalath coming worshipping, going out, coming back again, worshipping, going out and this continued for the whole night. Many were shocked by the display of such devotion to slain leader by Jayalath for the whole night. This situation was worsened as the country was in pandemonium and people were glued to the TVs waiting for further news updates.
My sister (Doctor ) now in Rome , got so agitated seeing this Jayalath running in circles retorted “ Me Jayalathta Pissuda Man Danne Na,….. Meya Apitath ( Doctors) Ekka Lagga Karanawa Mehama Karaki Karaki Wandala “……………( .Jayalath mast be mad to do like this , he insults all Doctors and their profession….you must not show such crazy emotions if you are a Doctor). But trick was done by morning every one in this country new Dr Jayalath Jayawardana from UNP party, as the most devoted man to their slain leader Pramadasa.
Premadas never had strong friends …. ( People feared him) even our nice friendly Minister who said he will drink “Sereppu Soup“ of Premadasa showed his true face immediately after his death.

Well his Excellency JR Jayawardana always said, like cricket, politics is a stayers, game. ( Meaning people ( politicos) who could stay alive long – with out dying would become the next leader. ). So let us stay – wait and see- who will become the next leader.
Well J R bacame president at a ripe old age and lived up to 92 years, with out any illness or surgery. ( not counting the last medical /surgical error).

While agree with Taboo’s excellent analysis about the “Opposition”, just want to add couple of things.
Many things works well, when in pairs, and there is a delicate balance in these opposite forces.
If one become week, it has a devastating effect on the other, simply loosing the reference point. America’s current roll as the ” Global policeman” could be the effect of collapsing socialist regime, in this case; and a governing party & the opposition are no exception to this rule.
There is an excellent story about Lee Kuan Yew, the late PM of S’pore. He said, ” If somebody challenge my son, I’ll come back from my grave to take the revenge”. Seems, some people take nepotism –favouritism granted to relatives, to their grave.
